Whoever said, ‘Love ain’t easy’ was right. If you look at any relationship objectively, you’ll see it goes through stages. Five stages test how real, deep and loyal the love between two individuals is. In most cases, if couples aren’t happy, they don’t reach beyond the third stage. However, if they let go off their ego and follow the forgive and forget route, there are full-fledged chances of a long-lasting relationship.

Here are five stages of love and the ideal ways to overcome each.

1. Falling in love

You feel as if you’re floating in the clouds. You feel like smiling for no reason. Falling in love is a phase to be cherished forever. It is this phase that makes us realise how capable we are of giving. You don’t need to make any effort to fall in love – it happens slowly at first and then all at once.

2. Coupling

Here, you confess your love for each other and become a couple. Or one of you pops the question and goes ahead without fearing rejection. As you’re aware, there could be two situations here – yes or no. If it’s a no, you will have to accept that the other person doesn’t feel the same way as you do, and move on. If yes, then it’s a great feeling of love being reciprocated.
The only way to cross this stage is by initiation. It is when you express your true feelings for a person, that you move forward. You start with movies and lunch dates and end being comfortable with physical intimacy. By now, you probably know what your partner likes and dislikes. You’re in love and it shows. Everything is perfect, and everything is rosy.

3. Disillusionment

Until you reach the third stage. By now, reality starts creeping in. It hits you hard. ‘Oh why do you always make sounds while eating?’, ‘Why do you always have to keep a check on me?’, ‘Why do you always think I am looking at other girls?’. Fights like these start to occur in the third stage and it’s now suddenly a bed of thorns. At this stage, couples who are not sure about the future stop seeing each other and discontinue their relationship. Stronger couples successfully cross the third hurdle.
It is this stage in a relationship where the couple’s patience and their love for each other is put through test. This hurdle can be crossed with love, trust and lots of patience. For instance, it’s necessary to forgive and forget after every fight. With understanding and mutual respect, disillusionment can be put behind.

4. Working on creating long-lasting love

Once the third stage is behind, couples have to pour in more love, trust and respect to nurture the relationship, which then becomes unbreakable.
By this stage, you have accepted your partner’s shortcomings and now look beyond their anger and tantrums. You are so close to each other that the thought of separation doesn’t even cross your mind. However, both of you have to work hard to keep the spark alive. Whether it’s their birthday or an exciting trip they are going on, you’ve got to be psyched and you’ve got to be excited.

5. Taking over the world together

It’s not you vs the world. Since you no longer have any doubts and qualms about your partner, you can now concentrate on doing things together to change the world. You are a team and can do anything, whether it’s being the best couple, doing philanthropy or setting an example in perfect parenting. You’ve got to be a strong team and influence others to be the same.
