By saying that women need to quit smoking in 2018, we, in no way, mean to say that men should not. But, as we are talking about how harmful it is for women, and as a matter of fact, more than it harms men, we had to say that. Now, this isn’t a new study or research that came out. It is as old as 2011. But, do women know this? Most of them do not. In fact, today tobacco industry is capitalising on women buyers and it is expecting its growth in the future through them. So, we thought that we must tell you how harmful smoking is for you, dear ladies and why it is not okay to do it even if your male partner is doing it.

1. Double risk of lung cancer
A woman who smokes as much as her male partner is twice likely to develop lung cancer, said a study based at New York. The reason behind this is that the bodies of men and women react to the carcinogens in cigarettes differently. While, men may excrete some of them through urine, women’s bodies turn them into carcinogenic substances.

2. Increased risk of cardiovascular diseases

A study published in the Lancet said that women who smoked as much as their male counterparts face a 25 per cent higher risk of coronary heart disease than men. Also, the risk of heart diseases increases each year more for women than it does for men if they continue smoking.

3. Stronger effect on arteries
Another Europe-based study also found out that when women and men were affected with the same amount of tobacco exposure, the thickness of women’s carotid arterial walls was affected five time worse than men’s.

4. Risks in childbirth
