Avengers Endgame director Anthony Russo confirms ‘Loki could absolutely still be alive’

Avengers: Endgame gave us enough to discuss and speculate but there was one scene that the film and the audience allowed to fly under the radar. After we are done with that Captain America scene, and that Iron Man scene and that Black Widow scene, it is time to finally — in the end — discuss that Loki scene.

During the time heist staged by the Avengers in an attempt to steal the Infinity Stones before Thanos can destroy them, they land in the middle of the Battle of New York in 2012. In an attempt to retrieve the Tesseract and Loki’s sceptre before they can be returned to SHIELD, things go awry. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) — disguised as a security personnel — gets knocked on the head and ends up losing the Tesseract. It lands near Loki’s feet, and he promptly teleports out of there with the Tesseract.

To fix this, Tony and Steve Rogers have to then go back to the 70s to grab the Tesseract. Strangely, neither Loki nor the missing Tesseract circa 2012 are never mentioned again in the film. However, if we know Loki – a Loki with the Tesseract, no less – he will be wrecking havoc in some alternate universe somewhere.
