The good news is that a recent study claims that a banana can offer the same energy boost as sports drinks.
Quickly digestible forms of sugar, in the form of fructose, sucrose or glucose, though natural sources like fruits or synthetic ones like sports drinks are known to help you continue for prolonged periods at higher intensities and recovery quickly afterwards with lower inflammation.

Not only does it offer the same performance enhancement like sports drink do, they provide nutritional advantages that are unmatched sugary synthetic drinks.
Loaded with a good amount of antioxidants, fibre, potassium, B6 vitamins, bananas make for more balanced and a more absorbable nutritional source.

Additionally, it also gives you an anti-inflammatory effect; similar to what sports drinks can give you.

The recent study conducted by the Appalachian State University’s Human Performance Lab, found that although eight ounces of a carbohydrate drink provided the same reduction in inflammation with half a banana every 30 minutes, the banana had other benefits.
As mentioned before the nutrient profile of bananas are substantially higher, but they also are more efficient in reducing the inflammatory effects in the body.

In fact, the researchers claim that the anti-inflammatory effects are comparable to ibuprofen. They still haven’t figured out how it manages to affect the gene expression like it does.

The banana provided as many carbohydrates as the sports drink, but also caused quite a bit of bloating, however.
The researchers do not know if half a banana every 30 minutes can be labelled as the ‘ideal’ amount to be consumed during exertion, yet, though.
