Mark Zuckerberg Gives Away $95 Million Worth Of Facebook Shares To Charity

Last year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg along with his wife Priscilla pledged to give away most of their wealth to charity. Staying true to their pledge, the Facebook CEO has sold his company’s shares worth a very generous $95 million.

As per a US regulatory filing, the Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation and CZI Holdings LLC sold shares worth $95 million before taxes, reported Forbes. “The sales likely netted more than $85 million after capital gains taxes, the report added.

The CEO of the world’s largest social media website that accounts for 1.71 billion monthly users (more than the population of India), along with his wife Priscilla Chan pledged to donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares, amounting to roughly about $45 billion to help promote equality for children and advance human potential. They started the “Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative” after the birth of their child, Maxima. The foundation would initially focus on “personalised learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities”.
The couple plans to give away approximately $1 billion worth of stock each year through 2018 to make a difference in the world.
